Community Tools Project rollout
Tags tools
I have made a couple of presentations today, that is Feb. 11, 2010, which are the beginning of the community rollout of the Ingres DBMS Tools project. We received the "go-ahead" for the project from our CEO a couple of weeks ago and his first instruction was to get this out to the community for input. So, that's what we're doing.
The beginning of the project is here: Tools API Home - Ingres Community Wiki
I want to personally encourage anyone with an interest in Ingres DBMS Tools to participate in this project, by (at least) reading through the documents as they are posted and (hopefully) making comments or suggestions.
And I definitely need comments like, "You know, that's a good idea, BUT ....."
The recording of the first presentation is available for replay here: Ingres Administration Tools Webcast-20100211
Thanks!

This looks like a great improvement for administration. In my opinion, VDBA is a poor frontend compared to the other serious RDBMSs. This project looks like just what we need (especially if it's backported to 9.x).
Having read the links to the project outline, I have a comment.
r.e. depreciation of netutil. Happy for the forms interface to be replaced, but I wouldn't want to lose the batch interface to the that tool.Posted 2010-02-12 at 03:42 AM by nick.bolton@barclays.com

Mary,
The webcasts are noted on the main page of the community wiki - Welcome to the Ingres Community - Ingres Community Wiki in the right hand box under Hot Topics. In addition, notice is often posted to one of the Ingres forums and to the folks on the Ingres VIP mailing lists.

Nick, we intend to provide a command-line (i.e., "batch") interface to everything that can be done through the GUI. There will likely be a scripting option also so that operations can be combined in interesting ways. Watch for further blogs about this.Posted 2010-04-05 at 01:08 PM by whiro01
