Default Ingres II 2.0

I have a customer who has a very old version (Ingres II 2.0) running on VAX/VMS. I'm looking for a downloadable copy of this version for Windows, Linux, or VMS so that I can do some offsite prototyping. Are there trial versions available?

Hello Ed,
There is no Ingres 2.0 trial version. There is however version 9.2 which can be downloaded from esd.ingres.com.
Thanks,
Linda

Thank you Linda, but I am looking to duplicate the client's environment so that I can put together a solution demo.

Thank you,
Ed

I don't think there was ever a download option with Ingres II, it came solely on CD. I think that all the downloading started with r3, as that's when it became open source.

Visually the two versions will be more or less identical. Unless you are demoing some sort of detailed performance analysis that has to reflect II 2.0 numbers, you can be comfortable running a demo on 9.2.

In 9.2 or 2006, can you still link the application and the database engine into one big executable? Is the form tool from 2.0 still around in the later versions?

Thank you,
Ed

Hello Ed,
Ingres 9.2 is the latest version of the Ingres Database. This is a higher version also known as Ingres 2006 R3.
Ingres 2006 is called Ingres 9.0.

You can download Ingres 9.2 from :
http://esd.ingres.com
Under Products -> Ingres Database
Under Release -> 9.2

All tools are available in this latest release, but if you can speficically tell me which "FORM" tools are you referring to, I can check that for you.

You never could. You can (still) link all the necessary front-end Ingres libraries into the application executable, in the same way as 2.0.

As for the forms stuff, yes it's still all there and all pretty much the same. The character based (forms) tools have been in a static maintenance mode since before 2.0; all the interesting development work is going into OpenROAD.
