Integration Plan Template

The following template should be populated as part of the Ingres Submission Process and sent to the appropriate reviewer within the Ingres DBMS Development Team for approval.

Integration Plan for Ingres Issue <Insert issue number here>

Targeted submission date: <Insert date on which submission is planned>

Change author: <Your name, as known to the Ingres Project>

Reviewer: <Appropriate module owner>

Overview : Bug # <Insert the bug number here>

Describe the problem that your change addresses or the feature that you are implementing.

A one-paragraph description of the changes. This should give enough information so that someone skimming the IP can determine if the contents are of interest.

Patch Notes: Incorporate some text for inclusion in the next set of patch or release notes.

Facilities affected: Identify the Ingres facilities impacted by the change e.g. opf/opq so that we can confirm that an appropriate team of reviewers are involved in the approval process.

Expected impact on installations and/or build process: Typically "None", but if change adds a new component, directory, process, etc., or if it requires a rebuild beyond the directly impacted components, it should be mentioned here.

Test Results: Regression suites must be run, even if they do not directly test your change, but to assure your change did not break something else in an unexpected way.

Any deviations from the canons noted. If unexpected differences exist, then either canon or fix has the problem. In either case the need for further evaluation and changes are strongly suggested.

Additional tests: A complete description of the custom tests performed to verify this fix. If the tests are too extensive to be included in line, then the tests may be included in an attachment.

The thought and effort put into the test plan should be some significant fraction of the effort that went into the fix. The scripts used to implement the tests should be as platform generic as possible, and conform as nearly as practical to the Ingres bugs script standard) The importance of this cannot be over emphasized. You must provide a test case unless you get approval from your manager, or if the change is purely to documentation. These scripts will not only be used in verifying this bug fix prior to building a patch, but will be incorporated into the formal QA suite.
